Trudeau is APEC Hottie - What the Fact - December 2015

Trudeau is APEC Hottie

Trudeau whisked away from adoring Manila mob
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau had to be whisked away from a summit by police bodyguards on Thursday as hundreds of excited journalists and staff swarmed around him in a bid to take photos and say hello.
I know the feeling. I had to flee a mob once too. I just can’t remember if they were adoring or a lynch mob.

Ehe, sus Guinoo ko.

MY FEARLESS PREDICTION
Right now, the newspapers feature civilian employees making the bed of the military barracks for the refugees.
But in one year or just six months after Syrian refugees are housed in the military barracks, they will be complaining of in-humane living conditions, of having to live in one barrack (ROOM) per family. The photos will show unmade bed, litter all over the floor, etc...the same conditions that exists already with the Canadian poor. The sympathetic write-up will be big news in the Toronto Star. There will be a quote from a refugee something like “don’t get me wrong. We are grateful to the Canadian government but no human should have to live in this kind of conditions.” Every media outlet and their commentators will echo the same sympathetic tone, afraid to be called racist, except the readers who will be furious. The National Post and Toronto Sun will be the exception among the media also. Prime Minister Trudeau will promise to investigate the situation.

It’s not final until Comelec says it’s OK
Is he secretly hoping that Comelec will refuse his candidacy? Is his substitution candidacy official yet?

Poe is out (for now until presstime for us here in Toronto). But Is Duterte still in?
Duterte entered the race because he said Poe is not a natural-born Filipino and he does not like the Philippines to be ruled by a foreigner. Now that Poe has been disqualified, is Duterte going to withdraw? Even if he stays, by the way he is going he looks like he is trying to lose anyway.

Tourism is next growth driver
Is he high on something?
Cayetano Paderanga, an economics professor at the University of the Philippines, said that the country’s tourism sector has the potential to drive economic growth.
With the kidnapping of two Canadians among 4 people in Davao just in September  still unsolved, and the extortion among other rackets in our main airport, the Ninoy Aquino Internatinal Airport still going on, how do you expect tourists to come here?  The only people who will come here are balikbayans, and some of them jsut because they have no choice, just like some OFW’s.

What is Canada’s contribution?
A Muslim man was being interviewed and he talked about ISIS recruiting young people who feel they are being ignored is no different than gangs recruiting these same people saying “join us and we’ll take care of those people for you.” As for about Trudeau’s plan to still pull Canada out of the bombing missions, he says, “I don’t think the coalition will miss 6 planes, which is Canada’s contribution to the bombing mission. Other countries have far more planes involved.”
However, is this any way to show support for our allies?
Trudeau said he will increase Canadian advisers on the ground. I hope he doesn’t have to deal with some of those advisers being kidnapped by ISIS or other terrorist groups and beheaded.

Paris bombed by terrorists
Trudeau also said that his plan to bring 25,000 Syrian refugees has not changed. However, Saskatchewan wants to suspend the plan and Quebec’s minister of Immigration say the target is is tough to meet. If you hear that the refugee plan seems to be going slow, you know that Trudeau has tightened security check. After all, politically, it is survivable to see refugees die out of Canada but political suicide if Canadians die on Canadian soil from a terrorist attack.

The Power of Stupid People
Comedian George Carlin said ‘never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.’
However, more dangerous is “the power of stupid people in small groups shouting ‘we represent the majority’” and getting massive coverage in every media.

What did they talk at APEC?
After Paris terrorism, and climate change,  what did they tackle at APEC in Manila? Is that it? Who was the hottest APEC hottie? No solutions to poverty, terrorism, climate change, etc...Sus Guinoo na ititihaya ko...Paguwapuhan lang pala. Sumali na sana ako.
Ehe, ano ba itong nasabi ko?

Justin Trudeau wins on Looks? - What The Fact - November 2015

OK, LET’S GO WITH HIM

Did Justin Trudeau win for the sake of replacing Stephen Harper but not exactly his policies? If somebody else was running, would the Conservatives have won?
And by the way, am I the only one wondering why the Conservatives had a very boring election campaign? They had the most money, and they squandered it on why Trudeau is “just not ready.”
But were the conservatives ready?
Judging from their campaign, they weren’t either.

The expectations for Trudeau were so low that him not making a major mistake was considered an accomplishment, like the discovery of sliced bread.

I’m not really sure whose story to believe, the OFW who forgets a knapsack full of money or that the investigators found evidence of employee criminal behaviour. These three might be the scapegoat for a laglag-bala scam that the investigators found no evidence. In short, sacrifice these 3 so the public will not say we are covering our own employees. You’re travelling and you forget a bag, which just so happens to contain lots of money. If I have lots of money, it will be in my person, no matter how much it is. I will not put it in my bag.  Two things stay in my person, the money and the passport.

Mayor Tory pretending to stand up to the taxi lobby by not banning Uber, then asking Uber to suspend operations while it creates regulations for Uber is disingenuous. Who is he kidding? Uber refuses. We all know suspending operations pending regulation is the equivalent of being told to liquidate your business in Toronto. Toronto is not open to new business. Just look at the food truck issue. Council caved in to restaurateurs.

“Strategic voting” involves voting for someone you do not believe in. If you believe that your candidate has no chance of winning anyway, they convince you to vote for the other candidate. Huh? Never worked. It always benefits the party they are trying to bring down, often, it is the conservatives. Strategic voters always involve NDP and the Liberals.

Canada’s election focus might have been hijacked by the migrant crisis in Europe as opposition and the media used it to change the topic but the voters concern is different. What passes for headline news for the media does not necessarily mean it is a major issue for voters.
SELF-FULFILLING MOVIE TITLES
Dying Young, RIPD, Imbisibol...you know they are not going to make money at the box office

Let me get this straight. Trudeau informs the US that Canada will withdraw from the US campaign of the military bombing of ISIS and get the Keystone XL pipeline approved by the US at the same time. We already joined the US in the bombing campaign and we still cannot get the pipeline approved. The only way the pipeline will be approved is to pray that a Republican wins as the next US president. Or, hire York University tunnel-maker Elton McDonald and dig a tunnel across the border without anyone noticing.

To all those caregiver advocates who keep asking for the moon and the stars from the Liberals, you will get them but they will take away the sun.
Liberals will use the playbook of people in power. Give what you want and take something back. You have no choice but to be vocally thankful because they gave you what you asked but deep inside, quietly, you regret it because what they took was more important than what you got. Politics is a game of compromise.

So, now we have a new Prime Minister.  The Liberals won a majority, the Conservatives became the official opposition and the NDP went back to third place from second place. And we went back to work the next day as if nothing happened. Thank God we live in a country that is this boring. This is not sarcasm. There are countries around the world where, regardless of who wins, violence follows afterwards.  Let us keep this country boring so that people around the world will want to keep coming, a place where you can vote, go home, eat, and go to bed safe and sound.

Draft Lovi Poe for President - What the Fact - October 2015

GRACE POE IS OLD NEWS
JOIN THE “DRAFT LOVI POE FOR PRESIDENT” MOVEMENT

I’ve had enough of this nonsense talk about “will she or won’t she run” about Grace Poe when she finally declared her candidacy. It’s about time. It has dragged on for too long. She’s not even a real Poe. Why settle for fake Poe when we can have the real Poe. Stop the Fake Poe from taking the Presidency. Let’s start a Draft Lovi Poe for President movement.

Is everbody really as compassionate in real life as they are on social media?
Everybody says their hearts go out to the refugees. Everybody says let them in. Everybody is critical of Stephen Harper when he says we have to screen them because they come from war-torn countries.
But how many would let anybody in their own house if somebody knocks on their door and says let me in. Is that any different than a refugee? On TV, one refugee was caught on camera shouting “I did not leave the comfort of my home to be treated like a dog here.” REALLY? The comfort of your own home? Where the hell is that, Beverly Hills?
In Uruguay, a Syrian family wants to leave because it is expensive there and the father Al Mohammed said he can’t get by on just 11,000 pesos ($380) a month as a hospital worker, barely above Uruguay’s 10,000-peso minimum wage. That is better than some Canadians or even illegals here in Canada who work under the table with below-minimum wage and knowing they can be found and deported anytime. Some work 2 or 3 jobs. You’re a refugee. You will not be deported anymore.
Is it any wonder nobody wants to open their doors? Our own fellow Filipinos are now in limbo even after working 2 years here because of the changes in the immigration rules. These refugees don’t even have to work 2 years and they suddenly get immigrant status.
Is it any wonder that the only ones who feel compassionate towards these refugees are the media? They are the only ones trying to make it a major issue. Do you feel that the voting public feel the same way?
By the way, does anybody still remember that this all started with the Arab Spring, when all totalitarian countries in the Middle East will turn to democracy? The United States led the way in trying to overthrow Syrian president bashar Al-Assad. They did that with Iraq. We know what happened. Now look what happens. It seems the only dictatorship the United States approve of is Saudi Arabia. Those Saudis and us Filipinos better pray that Saudi does not run out of oil. It seems the US likes overthrowing non-oil producing dictatorships?
So, how compassionate do you really feel?

Real Life beats Media
Just because an issue is popular with the media does not mean it is of high concern with the regular people, the people who are quietly working their one, two or more regular jobs to feed their family, pay their bills and their taxes.
In act,  opinion polls find widespread support for the status quo when it comes to taking in Syrian asylum-seekers according to the a Globe and Mail column.

Hungary settled refugees secretly in 2013
But they were all Christians. Hmmm...I wonder why they let them in. And why they did it in secret?

Election by instagram
It seems the Canadian federal election is being hijacked by Instagram photo of the day from the Syrian crisis, followed by a race as to who can come up with the most heartbreaking twitter comment of the day. And it has become a case of  “if you are the incumbent, you cannot do and say anything right. If you are the opposition, you cannot do and say anything wrong.”

Self-fulfilling movie titles
Dying Young, RIPD, Imbisibol...you know they are not going to make money at the box office

Whoever is popular among netizens will lose the Philippine presidential election.
By the looks of it, Mar Roxas will lose.

SHOCKING! Bribery at Customs? - What the Fact - September 2015

BRIBERY AT BOC?
HIGHER FEES SA CUSTOMS IS THE RESULT OF BRIBERY?

I am confused. A representative of the door to door companies is saying that Customs personnel are asking for bribes to release their containers fast. Now I am confused and shocked. Oh My G.
Totoo ba ito?
I am shocked that there is bribery at Bureau of Customs (BOC).  He also says that if Customs increase their container fees too much, kakaunti na lang ang mapupunta sa bulsa nila. Malalaki na at malalalim pa naman ang mga bulsa nila. Naku, siguro walang katapusan ang paghuhulog mo ng barya diyan.

What the facts are ba naman?

President Binay, VP Aquino

Headline reads “Aquino says no as Roxas’ VP.” With good reason. Imagine Roxas and him running for President and VP respectively and Roxas lost and he won as VP. Now comes the nightmare scenario for him - BINAY WINNING AS PRESIDENT. Yikes. Or does he believe that Roxas cannot win as President the reason he turned it down? As the late comedian Dolphy once said, “running for elected office is easy. What if you win?” In this case, if Aquino wins as VP to Binay’s Presidency...you imagine the scenario.

Christmas starts in September

Filipinos have three seasons; wet, dry and Christmas. Christmas for us Filipinos starts in September. it’s when everyone suddenly feel the rush of optimism in the air. I do not know why but it seems there are two events when business also makes money; Christmas and election. Fortunately or unfortunately, depends on how you analyze it, national elections only happens once every 6 years.  But then again, there are still the barangay and senate, congress elections. Well, I guess all is not lost.

Customs as Cash Cow for Election

For refusing to raise P3 billion for the campaign kitty of the Liberal Party (LP), John Sevilla was pressured to resign as Bureau of Customs chief by the ruling party, the opposition United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) said last April. UNA interim president and Navotas City Rep. Tobias Tiangco said the LP pressured Sevilla to resign after the latter refused to make the BOC a milking cow of the ruling party. Now that door to door boxes are now being subjected to scrutiny, it is becoming clear that there might be some truth to the accusation.  Now, I read the news that Aquino told the BOC to stop opening boxes but only open those that looks suspicious in x-ray. Hmmm...Customs opening you box does not inspire confidence.

Sabotaging Roxas?

Is Aquino trying to sabotage Roxas campaign for president? I mean, the timing is not good to pull this kind of  enforcement. And since  Customs is not known for it’s honesty,  can you blame OFW’s for crying foul? Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz is trying to have it both ways like Aquino. She says she is against opening of OFW boxes but that she supports Customs in doing their job. Or is Aquino already giving Roxas an excuse for an election that he feels Roxas will lose?

Headline - 4 detained rapists of vice governor’s kin shot dead

Hmmm...this is a very complicated case. I strongly believe this is a case of suicide. What else could it be? They felt remorseful, they asked for a gun from the policemen guarding them and they shot themselves. Case closed.

Ashley Madison website hacked - What The fact - August 2015

AFFAIR WEBSITE
Hackers break in.

AshleyMadison.com, the website with the slogan “Life is short. Have an affair,” has been hacked.  The website, which specializes in giving married people in 48 countries an outlet to cheat has been hacked by the Impact Team, a hacker group. The IT claims to have private information including names, nude photos and credit card data. Imagine if your spouse found out that you are having an affair with the partner of your brother, sister...etc...Que horror. It just goes to show you that free sex is not free. Wait a minute. If this becomes a teleserye, I demand a royalty from Rosary Escano of TFC.
But first, is there a Filipino in the list?

Madam Raided

Remember Heidi Fleiss, the Hollywood madam that got raided along with her black book and the names of rich, powerful and famous people? Well, Charlie Sheen was one of those people on the list. But instead of waiting to be outed, he came out, admitted it willingly and went on the star in the hit series “Two and a Half men,” where he played a womanizing, hard-drinking brother to Jon Cryer. Eventually, he was also fired from that show after 8 seasons for personal reasons.  Well, at least he was single when the madam was raided. The only ones who suffered were the escorts who lost their living.

Double Standard on Poe

Why are they asking Poe to run as VP first when nobody asked Aquino to run as VP to Roxas before? Both of them were senators with no accomplishments. Yet, Aquino ran for presidency on the strength of his family name. And that is what Poe is banking on also. Besides, asking Poe to step aside is like asking Bruno Mars to stay out of the spotlight so people will buy my music. You can spray perfume on rotten egg but you cannot make people buy it.

Free For All

They assume that if Poe runs with Roxas, both of them will win. But the vote for president and vice president in the Philippines is separate, just like in the US.  It is still possible to have  a scenario where Binay wins as President and Poe wins as VP.  Now, I read that Vilma Santos will run as VP to Roxas. What they are probably hoping is that the popularity of the Poe or Vilma wil rub some off on Roxas enough that people will vote for him as president.

Why Carne Norte

I have been living in Canada since 1986. Recently, my friend’s wife posted photos of corned beef that she cooked. I praised it and joked if she will send me some through her husband (my friend and co-worker). She told me she will give me the corned beef she cooked if I can answer why it is called carne norte. I got no answers on the internet either but also some asking. I asked my nephew why who is visiting in Canada. He said there is an Argentinian brand of corned beef in the Philippines called Carne Norte. From that, I can only guess that we Filipinos started using it as a generic term just as all hot tubs are now referred to as Jacuzzis, even if the brand of the hot tub is Grand Rapids or Aura.
This is just my guess po. If you have other answers, feel free to share them.

Aquino’s Promise

“Magpapasagasa ako sa train if MRT and LRT do not improve” is what President Aquino said. I am not sure if it is a promise or not. Sus Guinoo naman. As if it wil happen naman iyan. We all know that no politician keeps their promise in the Philippines, if it is indeed a promise.

PIDC & Kalayaan together again? - What the Fact - July 2014

PIDC & KALAYAAN
TOGETHER AGAIN?

These 2 organizations used to hold a gala together. Then, they split up. Now, I see all the PIDC officers at the Fiesta ng Kalayaan festival in Missisauga. Are they together again? According to Verth Bugtong of PIDC, they are just “helping.”  Why? They were fine before naman. Kalayaan’s Fiesta always had a Kapamilya artista. It is PIDC that did not have an artista for the last 3 years. PIDC used to have a Kapamilya artista. For what reason they did not have one for the last 3 years,  I do not know why. Since all parties involved cannot be interviewed and evenif they did, will not want to be quoted, I cannot repeat what they tell me. Is somebody scratching somebody’s back here? Hmmm...

Where  is Dr. Solon Guzman?

Something is going on. When Dr. Solon is at Pinoy Fiesta instead of Fiesta ng Kalayaan in Mississauga (BOTH FESTIVALS HELD ON THE SAME DAY, there is something in the air. I was already wondering why his name is not one of the sponsors in the poster of Fiesta.  Would he be at Mississauga’s Fiesta? I went there and he did not have a booth and he was nowhere to be found.  Then, I see on facebook that he attended the Pinoy Fiesta at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. Why is he there at Pinoy Fiesta instead of his usual Mississauga festival? And at that Fiesta, just like the Kalayaan picnic last year, I did not see anymore familiar faces. anymore.  Hmmm...

Is  Dr. Solon the next senator?

He deserves it. He is the energizer bunny in any gatherings, greeting everyone, chatting, walking around, unable toi stay put in one spot. He is a natural people-person just like our current Filipino Conservative senator Tobias “Jun” Enverga.  I am sure that Dr. Guzman willnot add to the Conservative’s scandal-prone senators being investigated nowadays.

HOV LANES CAUSING TRAFFIC
DO THE PANAM ATHLETES NEED TO RUSH TO A DIFFERENT VENUE BECAUSE THEY ARE COMPETING IN TWO OR THREE SPORTS?
Do the athletes competing in swimming need to rush afterwards to a different venue because they are also competing in archery or cycling in a different venue? Are the ones competing in volleyball going to rush to a different venue because some of them are competing in diving or track and field? I don’t think so.
HOV is causing a lot of traffic now and making commuters angry. Do the Pan Am athletes and other officials really need the High occupancy Vehicle lanes? I am pretty sure they would get to their destinations in time without HOV. Besides, the tickets are only half sold anyway.

Balita Columnist is a published Author - Naku Ha, June 2014

Being Left Behind is Painful

The stress is too much. The pressure is unbearable. Their constant need for attention is emotionally draining. I cannot take care of them. I have to let them go. Who can I pass them to that will give them the same attention that I do? I thought it would never happen.
I thought we were peas in a pod. We were going to travel the same road all the way. My friend took that road before. A road that I never thought my friend would travel again.
But then, it happened. An engagement was announced by my friend. Marriage is definitely in the plan. Now, all these women are coming to me and I cannot take care of all of them. I have to let some of them go. Obviously, they are heartbroken. Who wouldn’t be? Can you blame them? Oh, the horror. And now, the stress, the pressure on me, of now being the world’s number one and most eligible bachelor. Why did you do it George Clooney? Why did you leave our single men’s club?

How to solve a problem like Rob Ford?

Incumbent Mayor and candidate for re-election Rob Ford is seen in a new video smoking crack and “will take a break.” To do what, I do not know. That video is nothing new. We already know he smokes crack. We know he hangs out with gangsters. This is what makes Rob Ford untouchable. He has no goody-goody image to uphold unlike Olivia Chow, who willingly poses with a laughable showman called Iron Sheik who then posts racist and derogatory remarks against other race and women. Chow then apologizes for posing with him.
Rob Ford is the Marion Barry of Toronto. Remember, him? He was the Washington DC Mayor who went to prison for a cocaine conviction of some kind. When he got out, he ran for Mayor again and still won handily.
There are those who say people are afraid to come to Toronto because of Rob Ford. Get real. With news about Detroit bankrupt and boarded-up houses, abandoned buildings, I would not want to visit Detroit even if Mother Theresa was running it, if she was still alive. People do not visit Toronto because they have never heard of Toronto. I’d still visit Paris, New York, or London even if someone like Rob Ford was running it.
So, he’ll take a break from the election. Good luck to the remaining candidates who have to come up with something to grab people’s attention until October. When Rob Ford returns, he might be a bigger news even without a new idea like the others.
Hmmm... how do you solve a problem like Rob Ford?

Our Solution to Rob Ford
A porn star who wants to create a national day for ‘self pleasure’ is standing as a candidate in the Toronto mayoral race. X-rated starlet Nikki Benz announced she wanted to stand for mayor, amid news that Rob Ford had taken a break from his election campaign to treat his substance abuse. She has already used a cheeky video to tell would-be voters about her policies, including her idea to turn Toronto’s light rail into a ‘Brazzers Pleasure Rail,’ complete with vibrating seats for women and sex toys for men.
She says she would also start a National Masturbation Month, which would include a day’s national holiday to celebrate ‘self pleasure’.
Benz, who is backed by her porn company employers Brazzers, has not yet filed her official nomination but has vowed to do so on May 28  - National Masturbation Day.
Damn, I missed that.
She gets my vote.

Singing Contest & Janet Napoles

Philippine Justice Secretary de Lima is refusing to release the affidavit of Janet Napoles. Pork barrel mastermind Janet Napoles wrote everything down. According to de Lima, the affidavit is not yet finished. But Napoles and her husband already gave copies to senator Ping Lacson and to the chairman of Manila Times. So, what is not finished yet, the sanitized version?
This is starting to remind me of some Toronto singing contest. A singing contest took longer to compute. Almost as long as Napoles to write the affidavit, if it is really not finished yet. In fact, Andy, a non-Filipino host already asked if they can get the results before the rental for the Korean Cultural Centre goes into overtime. And just like the pork barrel case, nobody wants to release what the judges wrote with their names on it because the “promoters” have to protect the judges. Hmmm….
I have watched the CNE singing contest for 3 years now and the judges always give their notes to the parents. And none of them have been killed yet.

Balita Columnist is a Published Author

Not a lot know this but it turns out that Balita Columnist Romeo Marquez is a published author. I am impressed. Does anyone have a copy of his book? Does anyone know where it is being sold? I’d like to read the salacious details. I wonder if it’s as racy as Penthouse Forum.

English in Philippine movies - Naku Ha, May 2014

English in Philippine Movies
Tagalog getting used less and less in Movies

If you notice, a lot of lines in Philippine movies are now in English. Most of the time, these characters are playing a rich person or an executive. These are positions that the masses aspire to. There might be another reason why a lot of lines are in English. These movies are shown abroad for the Filipinos to watch in regular theatres.  Producers might be trying to attract the second generations of Filipinos. If  most of the lines are in English, producers avoid the cost of either putting subtitles or dubbing them in English.  If forced to do either one, producers will probably avoid using subtitles. Hindi relaxing manood kasi ng movie na may subtitles, hindi ba? What do you think?

Offloading should be Banned
Off-loading, whatever the excuse, whether to protect “possible” victims of human trafficking, or any other explanation, would smell just as bad. BIR clarified that if Filipinos have a tourist visa from another country, they should be allowed to leave. However, there have been instances where Filipinos with tourist visas were offloaded or barred from leaving just because they assume the person is a victim of human trafficking or plan to overstay and work abroad. So what? If Filipinos have a tourist visa to the destination, they have a “right” to leave. If they plan to overstay and work, that is not the problem of the Philippines. If the receiving country granted them a visa, what is the problem and why make it our problem?

Opinion favourite

It is election time again in Toronto.  And once, Olivia Chow is favourite. Based on surveys, she is ahead of Rob Ford (PHOTO). This is what happened to George Smitherman before. They say the race was close, that they are neck to neck. Rob Ford barely campagined, or less visible that George Smitherman during the campagin.  With two months to go, Rob Ford started becoming visible. They had a debate which neither side won, I think. I can’t remember the debate. On election day, George Smitherman conceded defeat after 12 minutes of closing time.  Rob Ford won decisively.

Truth on Election Day
People rarely tell the truth during surveys.  Most people tell the pollsters what everybody wants to hear. They have the feeling that if they tell them an opinion that is not popular, they will be harassed, either by the person doing the survey or other people. They probably ahve the feeling that the person will argue with them longer if they say something unpopular. people do not trust surveys nor do they trust the people asking them. They also think that the pollster will probably trash your opinion also. So, to save everyone time and money, they just say what is popular.

Pampagulo lang

John Tory, Karen Stintz and David Soknacki joined the Mayoral race just to confuse people. They say that Olivia Chow has the race representing the left of politics so people will identify her easily. To the right of politics, is Rob Ford and Tory, Stintz and Soknacki. That’s a load of crap. This will boil down to Rob Ford versus Olivia Chow.  I put my 1 dollar on Rob Ford.

US to help in Talking

Russia has already taken Crimea and the US did nothing. Europe did nothing. Unless your country has vast oil reserves, do not expect the United States to come to your aid militarily in a heartbeat. Look what happened to Iraq hen Saddam attacked Kuwait.  We’re not really sure whether US came to the aid of Kuwait or was worried about Saudi Arabia. Let’s talk about the Philippines. Do we have oil? Nada. Ay naku patay na.

Filipinos in the Running

Rafael Fabregas is asking for your help in securing the federal Liberal nomination for Scarborough Centre.  If nominated, he will be the Liberal’s representative to run for the House of Commons. Ace Alvarez is running for Trustee in Scarborough. I know Ace personally and I wish him all the luck.

I did not give my real name to Lindsay Lohan - Naku Ha May 2014

Lindsay Lohan List of Sex Partners Stolen?
When in rehab, one of the steps is to list the names of your all your sex partners you have had. Apparently, Lindsay Lohan’s list was stolen. I was not worried about my name being made public because. I did not give her my real name.

MILF Commanders join MNLF
NOW WHAT?
Some commanders of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) have joined forces with the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) along with thousands of their men because they do not want to give up their high-powered firearms and ammunition. Now, let me get this straight. The purpose of a national government is that they are the only government, with one army, one navy, etc... Why bother having one peace treaty after another with every armed group if some of their followers will not disarm anyway? Why not do like Peru and fight the rebels until the rebels disappear? A government cannot get tired of fighting rebellion and resort to treaties. It only encourages others. Let us also stop this nonsense of ceasefire after ceasefire because only the government soldiers observe them anyway. The rebels attack our soldiers and they justify it with stupid excuses and outside observers agree with them for the sake of agreeing.

Treaty to bring Peace?
Peace treaty with MNLF to bring peace before was opposed by MILF. Now deal with MILF supposed to bring peace is also opposed by MNLF and BIFF. Next, deal with BIFF will bring...what? Why is the PHL negotiating with these “rebels?” “Now what” is right.

One Organization begets another
This is like Filipino organizations abroad. A new organization is created, for example, Pilipino United Toronto Association or PUTA for short. They have a first set of officers. Then, after a few years, they have an election and the first set of officers are not re-elected. The first set of officers sourgrape of vote rigging or whatever to no avail. They separate and create a new organization called FIRST PUTA, to signify that they were the first officers of the original PUTA. Some organizations do not like to join either one because they do not want to offend officers of either organizations because they are friends with both of them.  Or maybe just bad vibes. Or maybe they just want to be officers themselves. But to distinguish themselves, they have to think of a Unique Selling proposition so they call themselves Pilipino United Toronto Association International, North America or PUTA-INA. Then, the 3 similarly-named associations try to get the embassy or consulate involved and all ask to endorse one of them to claim legitimacy, in their mind. If one of them get the recognition, they will then claim that as an endorsement and they expect the other association to cease and desist...existing, if that is possible. And so it goes.

Selfies on Stage Fade out?
What do you think of  taking selfies while on stage, whether with a star or not? Ellen started it. Is it going to live forever like the “achy break heart line dancing?” Or is it over before it even caught on?

“Vehicle Lost Control”
I just do not understand the grammar of people writing the news. How does a car lose control? Cars do not lose control - drivers do. Or you can say, “the car had mechanical failure and the driver lost control.” Or you can say “the driver had a heart attack and lost control.” BUT A CAR CANNOT LOSE CONTROL. It is not a living thing. Despite movies like Terminator, Terminator 2, Terminator 3 or Transformers, cars are machines. They do not think on their own and move by themselves.

Catholic Church is friendly to corruption?

A friend made a good observation. Why has no one in the Catholic church like the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines or CBCP, denounce the corruption scandals in the Philippine government? The church make very loud noises against the RH bill but none involving the senators and other politicians. Or is he wrong? Did somebody in the church hierarchy denounce anything yet besides the RH bill?

New Group waging War in Mindanao
How many groups are there in Mindanao?

First, the Philippine government made a deal with the Moro National Liberation front (MNLF) to have peace in Mindanao. Then, MILF group did not agree and wanted their own deal so they waged war. Now, the government made a deal with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) to have peace in Mindanao. Now, another group called BIFF is waging war because they want a deal with the government too. No, it does not stand for Best Islamic Friends Forever.  It stands for Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters. And on both previous deals, outside countries were happy to mediate. What’s the next alphabet group, MIFF? More like MIFFed because there will always be another group wanting a deal. And they will be LOL all the way to the B.A.N.K.  It’s good deal the government had not made a deal with the NPA. They know another group will come out wanting a deal faster than the ink dries on a treaty if a deal with the NPA is signed.

SmartChoice travel warns ticket Buyers

DON’T BE THE NEXT VICTIM
Ms. Rowena a.k.a. Winnie Lin Santiago is no longer connected or affiliated to SmartChoice Travel & Tours. She has been a free lance outside agent since Oct. 2013. She had a written contract which has been terminated. She did not act based on the scope and limitations of selling travel services from a registrant like us. Outside agents are not on our payroll. Acting on her own and without our knowledge, Ms. Santiago misrepresents herself as a co-owner of SmartChoice Travel and encouraged many people to invest and in return will get 10% interest monthly.

She was telling her victims that her price for airline tickets was a group /wholesale ticket rate but can only pay cash. Many victims paid her direct since her price was even lower than our price given to her. We have a rate contract with the airline and or airline consolidators to follow. She is giving her victims the cost of airline tickets hundreds of dollars lower than our price given to her. Many people booked with her because of the price difference. They paid her direct instead of paying our business account with the right amount based on our ticket amount given to her.
Without their consent or knowledge she recently used the credit cards of her passengers to pay for other passenger’s ticket. Also, she will give hundreds of dollars lower than our price and will charge their credit card with the higher amount which is different from the original amount agreed between her and the passenger but will pay them back or rebate them the difference later.
We feel sorry for all of her victims, and even our company is one of her victims for owing us $29,000 worth of airline tickets we paid for customers without tickets excluding the credit card disputes. Many of her victims are calling our office and looking for their airline tickets they have paid for but not received. They were told by Winnie Lin Santiago that they were booked and holding an airline ticket, but it was actually a detailed flight itinerary only.
E-ticket or Electronic Ticket Receipt is different from a flight itinerary only. E-ticket will show a 13 digit ticket numbers e.g. 079-4828678901 for PAL, 160-4828678901 for Cathay, 180-4828678901 for Korean Air and 695-4828678901 for Eva Air passengers just to give a few ticket number samples. Her victims only had airline confirmation number but no e-ticket receipt number indicated.
Having an itinerary does not mean that you already have a ticket number. Please be aware that after selling the travel service the Outside agent is required to promptly provide the consumer with an invoice from the Registrant Section 38(1) of the Regulation. The details that should be set out in the invoice, are : the customer who purchased the travel services, ; the business name, address, and telephone number of the registrant; the name of the company supplying the travel services; a brief description of the travel services purchased, the amount of payment, any fees, taxes or other charges and whether those amounts are refundable or non-refundable and whether trip cancellation and out-of-province health insurance was accepted or declined.
We have already informed TICO about this issue and we initiated a police report which is now under investigation. Please call Financial Crimes Unit at 416 808 7299 refer to report number 178 7786 to report that you are a victim or if you have any information to provide.
PLEASE REPORT TO US IF THIS PERSON IS STILL USING OUR BUSINESS NAME AND MISREPRESENTING OUR COMPANY. PLEASE SEND AN E-MAIL TO SMARTCHOICETRAVEL@BELLNET.CA
MAY ALL OF HER VICTIMS BE STRONG IN THIS TIME OF STRUGGLE AND ADVERSITY.

English Spoken in Philippine Movie - April 2014

BIR clarified that if Filipinos have a tourist visa from another visa, they are allowed to leave. However, there have been instances where Filipinos with tourist visas were offloaded or barred from leaving just because they assume the person is a victim of human trafficking or plan to overstay and work abroad. So what?If Filipinos have a tourist visa to the destination, they have a “right” to leave.

Vhong Navarro's Rape Video is a misleading headline title - March 2014

VERY MISLEADING HEADLINE
Deniece Performed Oral Sex To Vhong; CCTV Exposes The Truth!

Ito po ang headline sa ibang mga balita sa internet. The CCTV does not show the oral sex. The CCTV shows Vhong, other men, and Deniece going in and out the lobby and elevator, that’s all. Kaya tuloy ako napabasa. Akala ko iyong oral sex ang nasa CCTV.  Iyong iba naman, you ahve to click share before the video plays. I do not do that. I want to know if there is something worth watching in the video first. Otherwise, you end up posting useless videos on your timeline.

President Aquino is an Enigma
President Aquino is an enigma. He is a scion of a prominent family. He has Chinese blood from what I know. Yet, he refused to apologize to HongKong for the hostage fiasco. In dealing with China on the West Philippine sea issue,  he has the balls to call them names while his enemies, who have no Chinese blood sides with China. he is also the president who finally stopped the decade-long debate on the reproductive health bill and declared that it is time to put it to a vote and in turn, incurred the wrath of the Catholic church. He is an enigma.

Is it still news?
The definition of news is “newly received or noteworthy information, especially about recent events.”  But if it is not new anymore, what is it? If you keep writing the same thing again and again without new information being addded, what do you call it?
Gossip?
Propaganda?
Smear campaign?
Kung paulit-ulit mong sinusulat ang balita na naisulat mo na ng mga limampung beses,  ano ang gusto mong mangyari? Do you expect people up rise up and revolt just because you want them to take your cause? If you want people to take your cause, you have to pay them. They are called employees.  But if you think people will take time off from work, dedicate themselves to your cause, when you know you are the only beneficiary, you must be dreaming, hindi ba?

Only in the Philippines
Only in the Philippines can you make a false accusation and get away with it without being charged. A disqualified pageant contestant named Roxanne Cabanero accused Vhong Navarro of raping her.  Unfortunately for her, her story unravelled as to the timing of  when she was raped. At the time she claimed Vhong raped her, Vhong was singing at the concert of Vice Ganda.  So, the question is, will she be charged? Well, if she did not file it with the police, probably not. But if she did, she should be charged with filing a false report. Why? Because she used their time and money who ahd to investigate her claim, that’s why.  Sus Guinoo naman.

Why sabay sabay ang construction?

Bakit kaya sabay sabay ginawa ang construction sa Metro Manila? Dahil kaya may pera ngayon at they are worried na mawala. Kasi, it does not make sense dahil the traffic nightmare na mangyayari.

Where's Global Warming and other points to ponder

What happened to Global Warming?

If you have not heard or seen Al Gore lately, it’s probably because he is in some warm climate hiding from this polar vortex of a winter weather we are getting while we freeze our buns off because we cannot afford to take time off to hightail it to some tropical paradise. What happened to global warming that everyone was talking about? Anybody or wannabe somebody all said that it was bad for the environment and will bring doomsday to the world. But everybody else did not believe them. Everybody else enjoyed warm winters. Bring back global warming. The only people who are going to benefit from these frigid temperatures are hydro companies, road construction companies, manufacturers of ice wine, heating, winter clothing, blankets, thermal underwear among the few.

Why China did not give more?
With the pork barrel issue being buried by disaster stories, is it wrong to a ask “with all that money the government has, why is it not being used for recovery operations after every disaster?” If it has been diverted to politician’s pockets, why not divert it again to help the people? Can you blame China for just giving $100,000? It is either they know the victims will not get it or it might be used to buy arms, ships, ammunitions, aircrafts to fight them. We all know that China has been flexing it’s muscles, even encroaching on our territory, right? Or has everyone forgotten that too? The other countries can afford to give big because they are not having a “war” with the Philippines. Not to mention, the money they are giving is a drop in the bucket for from their budget but big enough to put the disaster areas -past and present maybe - back to normal. That is, if all the money really go to the disaster areas and the victims.

Will you follow blindly?
Liberal leader Justin Trudeau admitted to smoking dope and everybody falls asleep. Seeing that there is no backlash, the other politicians follow suit. Mayor Rob Ford is seen smoking an unknown substance and everybody is going berserk. Besides what charge can you file against any of them anyway? As for them being bad examples, who really follows lemmings if they jump over a cliff anyway? Jung tumalon ba sila sa tulay, susunod ka rin?

Why quality goes down?
I do not like Buko Pandan and Avocado flavours of Magnolia ice cream being sold in Toronto groceries. I like the Halo-Halo flavour of Magnolia though. Queso flavour of Sorbetero brand is fine.  However, when I bought Sorbetero Queso ice cream again, the texture changed. it is not the same creamy smooth texture that I bought before. In fact, it feels like snow. I am not the only one who noticed it. At Flor Vendiola’s wake, I met a guy who also noticed the difference. Why can’t Philippine products maintain their quality? Why do they think that we will not notice it? Hay buhay. Just when you thought you found one product you like, they ruin it.

Rob Ford speaks Patois
Another video of Rob Ford came out again speaking in a foreign language under the influence of alcohol. It made front page news again. Apparently, he was swearing but a language professor defended it as how we speak between friends. If you were speaking at council chamber or high society, it will be vulgar.  Because Ford got the attention agian, Justin Bieber’s publicist decided that Justin had to do something stupid to get the attention back. That is why he drove his Lamborghini while drunk.

They cannot make up their mind
Even Mayor Rob Ford’s opponent in council Adam Vaughan is getting tired of them. I am talking of John Tory and Olivia Chow.  While Rob Ford keeps his high ratings by getting drunk, these two keep staying in the news by not declaring if they will run for Mayor or not. Unfortuantely for them, this kind of news is getting tiresome while Rob Ford’s antics is jsut entertaining the public who keep giving him high ratings whenever a survey is done after his shenanigans. Ford has it easy.

Quality goes down for Sorbetero Ice Cream - Naku Ha February 2014

What happened to Global Warming?

Mechanic's Lunch Room Before Political Correctness - Naku Ha January 2014

“Mechanic’s Room”

The lunch room of my mechanic is a throwback to the politically-incorrect days when the walls are graced by calendars with women in different levels of undressed.  it really makes you look at the day of the month. No need for an iphone to ring on certain days to remind you that you have an appointment that day. With the calendar, you are motivated to look at the day.  But there is something I do not understand. Nowadays, it is “not right” to hang calendars with women in bikini in your workplace but it is still ok to buy the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue or even get a Victoria’s Secret catalogue and leave them lying around your office. Why?

Beautiful Blondes get their Attention
At my workplace Christmas party, the bar was packed and a friend of mine cannot get the bartender’s attention. She said she has been standing there for 30 minutes. Thankfully, a beautiful and blonde co-worker was also waiting and asked us what we wanted. She got the bartender’s attention and I got my beer.  See what non-blondes but equally beautiful women can do. Watch Lakambini on January 5 and you’ ll end up donating to a cause too.

Only the Good-Hearted
When my nephew was donating some goods to a relief drive a long time ago, somebody asked him if he was sure if it will reach the recipients.  He said, if he is going to worry if it will reach the needy or not, he will end up not giving at all. He said, I give because I want to. If somebody wants to run away with the money, there is nothing I can do.

Do not insult non-Filipinos helping us
Journalist Romy Zetazate and other Filipinos were with councillor Raymond Cho at Scarborough Town Centre. Councillor Cho, who is Chinese, was doing all the talking, and asking people to donate to the typhoon Yolanda victims.  Then, a group of Filipinos passed by and asked him if the money is even going to reach the Philippines. “That was the embarrassing part,” said Zetazate. “Here was a councillor, doing all he can to convince people to donate to the relief effort in the Philippines and our fellow Filipinos will treat him that way.”
It is nakakahiya nga. Para bang minamaliit pa nila iyong ginagawa ni Councillor Cho. I agree with Zetazate. Those Filipinos probably never gave anything in their life and they are using that excuse as justification to be makunat.
If you do not like to give, then, do not insult those who are willing to give. Compliment them. That way, nobody will doubt whether you give or not. People will just assume you do.
There is a saying “it is better to be quiet and be doubted as an idiot than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.” Parang ganito din iyan. “If you are makunat but quiet, people will doubt your kakunatan. But if you open your mouth and insult the generous people, then, you remove all doubt about your kakunatan.” They will come to the conclusion na makunat ka. If you give praise to those who give without making them doubt if their donations are reaching the correct recipients, people will assume you are as generous like them, even if you have not given any. If you are poor, that’s understandable. But to insult generous people if you are not poor, that’s low, ika nga.

Free plastic bags at Chinese groceries
Why do multinational stores charge you for plastic bags? Then sugarcoat it that it is going to some environmental cause. So, what they are doing is charging us to donate to the environment. According to some, using the plastic bag is not environmentally friendly. I disagree. Those bags are used again to throw the garbage or organic matter. It saves us money from buying those black plastic bags anyway.

Edgar Sulit is now Persona-non-grata
IPEN Impresario has received word from international pageant organizers that he is now persona-non-grata. In other words, banned. Well, actually it includes his beauties. Bea Santiago is the latest beauty from the stable of beauty pageant groomer to win a title. It is bad enough that Filipino women keep winning title in the past year.  Well, hindi naman daw ban - moratorium lang naman for one year until the other countries can catch up or may fighting chance lang naman. If you doubt this news, ask Edgar Sulit yourself.  Biro lang po. Readers naman, masyadong serious.

Sorbetero ice cream brand queso-flavour go blah

The first time I bought this brand, there were lots of cheese bits and creamy in texture. Now, I cannot bite any cheese bits and the texture is like sugar that did not melt. What happened? I can’t believe the quality went down in a matter of seasons from summer to winter this year.

Fundraising Left and Right Bato Bato December 2013

Fundraising Left and Right
Typhoon Yolanda brought unexpected loss of life and property that Filipinos worldwide mobilized to send goods and money. Dito na lang sa Toronto, hindi na tayo magkanda-ugaga. Weekends were jampacked with concerts, events and aprties all to raise funds to help our kababayans. This is something good about us Filipinos. We are ready to help aour kababayans at a moment's notice.

Questions Raised
Nobody even bothered to ask if the money and goods are all going to reach the victims. This is the unspoken truth. We all know that not all of this relief effort will reach out kababayans. But there is another point. For those of us who are sincerely giving help with the belief that it will reach the victims, it is enough that we give. The conscience of the givers is clear. If somebody in the middle decides to steal aid that is supposed to be for the victims, wala na tayong magagawa. We give becasue we care. If we do not give because we believe that it will not reach the victims anyway, that is the prerogative of others. But if you have not given anything at all and are using that excuse all the time, you probably have no intention of helping anyone in your life anyway.

Walang delicadeza
Journalist Romy Zetazate and other Filipinos was with councillor Raymond Cho at Scarboorugh Centre. Councillor Cho, who is Chinese, was doing all the talking, and asking people to donate to the typhoon Yolanda victims.  Then, a group of Filipinos passed by and asked him if the money is even going to reach the Philippines.
"That was the embarassing part," said Zetazate. "Here was a Chinese councillor, doing all he can to convince people to donate to the relief effort in the Philippines and our fellow Filipinos will treat him that way."
It is nakakahiya nga. Para bang minamaliit pa nila iyong ginagawa ni Councillor Cho. I agree with Zetazate. Those Filipinos probably never gave anything in their life and they are using that excuse as justification to be makunat. Kung hindi mo gusto na mahalata na makunat ka, tumahimik ka na lang.

Legalities to help?
According to Roxas, he just needs a letter to say what they need to do and what Tacloban can do so each one knows what their responsibilities are. Naku ha. Why is a letter suddenly needed to help a devastated area after all these years? Did they ask Bohol for a letter when the earthquake hit? Besides, you are the national government and Tacloban is part of the Philippines. Let me put it this way. You see a town with no houses standing, do you ome and ask, what do you need? Hindi ba commonsense, they need shelter.

Where are the goods?
President Aquino was bragging that they are ready. They said that planes are loaded with goods at the vicinity to be delivered when the storm passes. bakit nang matapos ang typhoon, walang nag-landing na goivernment planes? Bakit puro relief airplanes ng foreign governments ang duamating?

Image is Everything
Whys is it that evertime there is a typhhon, there is a video of a man putting rice in plastic manually? After all these storm, shouldn't they ahve a autoamted dispenser by now? By the way, why are we fond of giving rice? Where are the people going to cook them if they are devastated. There is no electricity. There is no gas. There are no houses. It is all symbolic becasue we Filipinos love rice. But at times like these, it is useless.

Naku ha December 2013 - Ford Voters are Less Educated

“Ford voters are less educated”

Remember the conclusion from a study that concluded “George Bush voters are stupid?’ Well, a story published in the Star concludes that Ford voters are less educated. We’ll see what happens on election 2014. Now, the Toronto Star tries to get support for Ford opponents by doing the same thing. It published a study that For voters are “less educated.” If there is one thing that voters do not like is being insulted that if they vote for a certain candidate, they are stupid. What happens is that even people who are not planning to vote at all go out and vote for that candidate. It is what happened to the US election between George Bush jr and John Kerry. We all know that happened. Will it happen to Rob Ford in election 2014? We will see.

TRANSLATION OF POLITENESS
When Canadian newspapers write an article, they have a way of being polite. Here is an example.
CANADA’S NATIONAL POST ARTICLE
Canada’s DART ( Disaster Assistance Response Team) hits the ground Running in Philippines
SUBTITLE- Shrewd Planning bypassed possible logistics delays
TRANSLATION OF WHAT THE WORD “LOGISTICS” MEANS - Corruption, Government Officials, DSWD Dinky Soliman, Politicians, etc, etc...
Sending aid to the Philippines is starting to sound like a military operation. In this case, the enemy is the Philippine government, bureacrats and politicians (INCLUDING VP BINAY WHO WAS NOT ALLOWED BY US MARINES TO GET IN THE AID AREA)who want to get their hands on the aid. The mission of of aid agencies is to reach the victims directly. What will Canada send next time there is disaster in the Philippines - special forces to escort the aid? US marines were actually ordered to make sure to keep the aid packages away from politicians. Other countries might follow suit and send their special forces too just to make sure aid arrives to the people who needs it. Ano ba naman ito? Tayo na tinutulungan, sinasmanatal pa natin. Kitang-kita ang corruption by the rest of the world. Nakakahiya na. Apaprently, not for some politicians sa Pilipinas. Hindi na marunong mahiya. Sus Guinoo naman.

WHY CHINA GAVE SMALL MONEY TO TYPHOON RELIEF
With the pork barrel issue being buried by disaster stories, is it wrong to a ask “with all that money the government has, why is it not being used for recovery operations after every disaster?” If it has been diverted to politician’s pockets, why not divert it again to help the people? Can you blame China for just giving $100,000? It is either they know the victims will not get it or it might be used to buy arms, ships, ammunitions, aircrafts to fight them. We all know that China has been flexing it’s muscles, even encroaching on our territory, right? Or has every forgotten that too? The other countries can afford to give big because they are not having a “war” with the Philippines. Not to mention, the money they are giving is a drop in the bucket for from their budget but big enough to put the disaster areas -past and present maybe - back to normal. That is, if all the money really go to the disaster areas and the victims. But they made up for it. China sent a hospital ship.

GIVE ME THIS, GIVE ME THAT

Why is Mar Roxas enumerating to CNN reporter what the Philippines needs as if it is the obligation of foreign countries / government / donors to fulfill them or give them? His tone of voice makes it sound as if he is demanding even. The Filipinos are grateful, specially the victims - current and past - in the typhoon areaS, but some government spokespersons being interviewed after every disaster gives the impression that they expect more necessities to be delivered by foreign entities (government, aid agencies, Filipinos abroad and their associations) when they are asked what is needed. Isn’t foreign help just supposed to supplement what the government is doing, assuming it is doing something. If the foreign media and foreign aid agencies did not come, the disaster area would have been ignored by the Philippine government and all we’ll hear are government soundbites about “it’s under control and everything is back to normal” without verifications from any local media.
